Burglar makes off with 4WD vehicle

-

MIRI: A burglar not only stole a wallet and handphone after breaking into a house at Riam here yesterday, but also drove off in a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle.

The 39-year-old owner of the vehicle, worth around RM80,000, said he only realised the family had been robbed when his mother woke him up around 4am.

“We were all asleep at that time. I was sleeping in the sitting room when my mother came from her room and told me that our house gate was wide open.

“We went out to the parking area and realised that my car, which was parked there earlier, was missing,” he said when met after lodging a report at the Miri Central Police Station.

He said the housebreaker also stole his car keys and wallet, which contained some cash, MyKad, bankcards and passport.

“My brother’s handphone and his car keys were also stolen,” he added.

In an unrelated case on Wednesday, police arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly selling illegal lottery tickets after a raid of a house in Tudan.

Police seized RM229, a handphone, a calculator, paper with betting numbers, and some stationery during the 5.30pm raid.

It is understood that the suspect worked at the premises as a caretaker.

Police are investigating the case under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
