13 students receive Yayasan Sarawak sponsorship
KUCHING: Yayasan Sarawak is sponsoring 13 students from the state who have been offered placement at boarding schools and sports schools in Peninsular Malaysia, or at Permata Pintar centres under its students exchange programme for Form 1 and 4 session for this year.
The selected students were accompanied by Yayasan Sarawak Kuala Lumpur (YSKL) chief officer Muhamad Rahman Sallehin to their respective schools.
One of the students, Fatin Nazirah Abdullah, 14, who registered at SMK Tengku Indra Petra Sports School in Gua Musang, Kelantan, said she was grateful for the Yayasan Sarawak scholarship, which would not only help her in her academics, but also her involvement in cricket – her favourite sport.
Sharing her sentiments were two other Sarawakian students who are her schoolmates, Muhammad Haaiqal Mohamad Basaree and Nur Dania Syuhada Abedul Samad – both in Form 1.
They said it had been challenging for their families to fully support their school fees, especially for the sports school, given the high expenses especially on study material and sports equipment.
They said they were committed to performing their best at school.
Abdul Roziq Yusop, 16, who registered at Form 4 at Sekolah Menengah Integrasi Sains Tahfiz, said he was also committed to proving that when it comes to giving only the best to students, Yayasan Sarawak scholarship stands as the most prestigious of its kind.
For Form 1 student Nur Syazwani Mohammad Fadzli, who registered at Kolej Tunku Kurshiah, it was her first time being so far from her family.
She was unable to contain her emotions when her mother bid her farewell after accompanying her for registration day.
Nur Syakhila Arizan Abdullah, now a Form 1 student at SM Sis Seri Puteri, Kuala Lumpur, was also sad, but for a brighter future, she said she would not throw away the opportunity to become a successful person in the future.
