Moral uplifting society praised for ongoing community work
MIRI: The Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society here has earned praises for its ongoing programmes that not only help the poor but also strengthens the unity of the people.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin lauds the society on its ‘selfless contributions’.
“Every year, Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society works with the Welfare Department and other relevant agencies in identifying needy groups deserving of aid prior to festivities like the Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“The intention is to help – irrespective of racial and religious sentiments. This is an example for every association to follow, and to bring people together,” he spoke at the society’s 35th anniversary dinner in a restaurant here on Saturday.
Kim Shin said apart from spreading love and care, the society should continue to spread good values through its Taoism teaching.
“The moral uplifting society teaches good moral conduct, which refrains one from improper doings. It’s only then that the heart and mind are at peace. These are vital in creating a good and harmonious society for everyone,” Lee said.
The assistant minister later pledged RM20,000 for the society to run its activities. The dinner was attended by over 700 representatives from over 70 moral uplifting societies from across Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and China.
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri Mayor Adam Yii, Federation of Moral Uplifting Association of Malaysia vice-president Tai Yin Kiong, Che Hor Khor Moral Uplifting Society chairman Datuk Lee Kee Seng, and Miri Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society chairman Tony Pui were among the distinguished guests.
