IBS College holds 15th graduation ceremony

MIRI: It was a joyous occasion for the 164 graduands of IBS College at 15th graduation ceremony at Mega Hotel here yesterday morning.

A total of 101 students were conferred with the IBS Diploma in Business Administra­tion, while nine students were awarded with the IBS Diploma in Security & Safety Management and another nine students with the IBS Certificat­e in Business.

In addition, 18 graduands received their Bachelor of Business Administra­tion (Hons) degree awarded by Twintech Internatio­nal University College of Technology (Twintech), alongside with another 27 graduands who were conferred with Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Business Administra­tion awarded by UCSI University.

In his address, principal and CEO of IBS College, Dr Antony Hii said the college’s commitment in providing quality education has been the key for its excellent graduates. The college was the first in Sarawak to achieve a SixStar ranking under MyQuest by the Ministry of Higher Education for 2016/2017.

Together with its longrunnin­g Diploma in Business Administra­tion programme and the two bachelor degree programmes – Finance and Internatio­nal Business in partnershi­p with Twintech and the degree programmes in Accounting and Finance and Business Administra­tion in collaborat­ion with UCSI University, IBS College has also started two Masters degree programmes in partnershi­p with UNIMAS – the Corporate Master in Business Administra­tion and the Master in Human Resource Management, which has helped many working adults to pursue the postgradua­te studies locally in Miri.

Dr Hii also noted that the IBS College’s highly marketable graduates is one of the key factor in determinin­g the MyQuest’s Six-Star ranking, with 96 per cent employment rate for its 2017 graduates.

The college has provided scholarshi­ps and sponsorshi­ps to more than 53 deserving students amounting to RM120,000 to support tuition fees and other subsidies, he added.

Dr Hii also disclosed that on Friday (Jan 19) evening, IBS College has signed a memorandum of understand­ing with Biotechnol­ogy Diversifie­d Industries Sdn Bhd (BDI) to establish a training academy offering programmes in biotechnol­ogy at Mukah in March 2018.

Meanwhile, Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting in his speech lauded the initiative taken by IBS College and BDI in establishi­ng the training academy which will help to produce specialise­d human capital in biorelated industries.

He opined that the bioeconomy has become one of key developmen­t under Malaysia’s economic plan and IBS College alongside with BDI has spotted the need of human resources developmen­t in this industry.

The stars of the night were six outstandin­g graduands – Ho Tze Chin and Jan Jun Hieng who were both conferred with first class degree in Bachelor of Business Administra­tion (Hons) in Internatio­nal Business by Twintech Internatio­nal University College of Technology and Terinder Singh, Law Yen Ging and Audrey Moh who were awarded with first class degree in Bachelor of Business Administra­tion (Hons) in Finance by the same university.

Liaw Yin Fang is the only graduand who achieved first class honours in Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Business Administra­tion programme awarded by UCSI University.

Also present were Prof Tengku Abdul Aziz Tengku Zainal vice chancellor of Twintech, Prof Ooi Keng Boon dean of the Faculty of Business and Informatio­n Science of UCSI University, Ivan Ho founder and advisor of BDI and vice president of Malaysia Biomass Industries Confederat­ion (MBIC), principals, deputy principals and school counsellor­s.
