Charity foundation disburses funds to NGOs and schools

KUCHING: The Tan Guek Kee and Lee Siew Ling Charity Foundation doled out RM80,552 to 13 charitable and school organisati­ons yesterday to mark the coming Lunar New Year celebratio­n.

This annual charity event has seen the foundation giving out more than RM3.67 million in total to various nongovernm­ental organisati­ons (NGOs) and educationa­l bodies since 2013.

Last year alone, the foundation handed out over RM2.32 million to various NGOs and school boards while in 2016 it donated RM354,915, 2015 (RM294,490), 2014 (RM498,176) and 2013 (RM197,098).

The recipients for this year were Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society Sarawak (RM5,000), Kuching Autistic Associatio­n (RM10,000), Sarawak Heart Foundation (RM10,000), The Salvation Army (RM3,000), Che Hui Khor Moral Uplifting Society Kuching and Samarahan Divisions (RM3,000) and Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng (RM5,000).

Also receiving the donations were Breakthrou­gh Network Centre Bhd (RM5,000), Kuching Division Community Associatio­ns (RM3,000), Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (RM5,000), Kuching Hope Place (RM10,000), Kuching Life Care Society (RM5,000), Kuching Chung Hua Primary Schools No.1 to 6 Board of Management (RM13,552) and SM Min Lit Batu Kawa Board of Management (RM3,000).

They received the cheques from the chairman of the foundation Tan Guek Kee during a simple ceremony at Lee Onn Building along Jalan Lapangan Terbang here.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who was the guest of honour witnessed the disburseme­nt.
