NRD director- general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdul lah said parents need to be more responsible and serious about registering their children’s births as it was closely connected to other matters.

He said the government was commit ted to solving the issue and had extended the registration period for newborn babies from the previous 14 days to two months, and provided various platforms and methods to do so.

“Failure to do so can lead to many problems when the child grows up, including difficulty in enrolling in a school,” he told reporters at the Melaka Home Ministry Complex in Ayer Keroh here yesterday.

Earlier, Mohammad Razin had met Melaka NRD officers and staff during one- day working visit yesterday.

Also present was state NRD director Norazle Sulaiman.
