DG: Bomba targets improvement of response time and services

-

KUCHING: The F i re and Rescue Department ( Bomba) is enhancing several areas in efforts to implement a more systematic and better work flow to improve its response time and services to the people.

Its director general Dato Sri Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim said Bomba needs a physical development plan where its station design and concept is the latest.

“At the same time, we need to adapt to the latest high tech equipment, such as robots, drone and tracking system, and to allocate smaller vehicles to cater to areas with narrow lanes, which will improve response time,” he said.

Wan Mohd Nor’s text of speech was read by Bomba state director Nor Hisham Mohammad during the department’s annual assembly at its state headquarters in Tabuan Jaya here yesterday.

Wan MohdN or further mentioned that it is timely for the department to introduce a smart indicator to identify the capabilities of each staff to ensure they are competent and able to handle emergency cases.

“We will continuously improve on educating staff, improving infrastructure, training simulators and improving our standard operating procedures,” he said.

He revealed that the response time key performance index (KPI), which is to attend to emergency distress calls within 10 minutes, has increased from 41.6 per cent in 2016 to 43.7 per cent last year.

“For this year, we target 48.5 per cent (attending to emergency distress calls within 10 minutes) and we are confident that this can be achieved, as we have added 20 new fire stations to the current 289 fire stations( nationwide ).

“The existence of fire posts in strategic locations is another factor to assist in achieving this KPI,” said Wan Mohd Nor.

The event also saw the presentation of ranks to nine Bomba officers of various positions from across the state.
