Cops nab man over girlfriend’s wrongful confinement, sexual abuse
SIBU: Police have arrested a jobless man on suspicion of confining and sexually abusing his girlfriend in his rented room over the past week.
The 29-year- old was nabbed yesterday after the victim managed to escape from the room at Emplam Lane on Monday and lodged a police report.
District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, who confirmed the arrest, identified the victim as a 23-year- old factory worker who hails from the same longhouse as her boyfriend in Bawang Assan.
“The two have been in a relationship together for some years. The incident occurred last Monday when the man disallowed the woman from leaving his room.
“He forcibly confined her there until her escape last Monday,” he said when contacted yesterday.
According to him, the suspect threatened to harm the victim and her family if she dared to leave the room, and had even forced her to ask her aunt for money.

was forced to have sex with him daily during the confinement.
“She claimed all this occurred without her consent,” said Stanley, adding the suspect is also believed to have physically abused the victim during that period.
Following her escape, the victim was sent to Sibu Hospital where she received outpatient treatment.
Police will be applying for remand against the suspect, who is being investigated under Section 357 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement and Section 506 of the same Code for criminal intimidation.
