MIRI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ( KPDNKK) is in the process of getting a new transporter for subsidised fuel for Long Banga in upper Baram and its surrounding areas.

Its Miri chief Joe Azmi Jamil assured consumers in the area there is no drop in the fuel subsidy quota for the area.

“The present transporter backed out in the middle of December and KPDNKK is now in the process of getting a new transporter to supply the subsidised fuel comprising of petrol, diesel and cooking gas tanks to Long Banga,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday in response to reports there would be a drop in subsidised fuel for the area.

required approval from Putrajaya.

“We will work fast to ensure the new transporter will start its operations in ensuring the affected villagers will receive their fuel supply,” he added.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Mulu Youth chief Usat Bilong, who is from Long Banga, said he received many complaints from villagers that the current level of subsidised fuel is not enough to cater to the over 100 households in Long Banga.

“I’ve received many complaints from villagers that the number of litres of subsidised fuel is decreasing and villagers will suffer the most as the village is located far from the nearby towns,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

“That has us very worried and we are not sure if this trend will go down further and jeopardise the community’s life in Long Banga and its surrounding areas.”
