Embrace Industry 4.0, minister urges youths
KUCHING: The Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) should be embraced by the new generation, particularly the youths, as the nation progresses towards modernisation.
In pointing this out, Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said Industry 4.0 is not solely about Internet, but also about the Internet of Things ( IOT) where automation plays a bigger role in daily life.
“For example, we are looking at vehicles without drivers, where everything is no longer manually done. We are looking at easier access to anywhere via smart system, which is less hassle and faster,” said Fadillah, who is Petra Jaya MP.
This, according to Fadillah, is crucial in that the nation needs programmers who are able to handle such things, and also to master the multimedia and its applications.
Fadillah said this during the ‘ Kampung Matang Batu 10 Unity Session’ between nongovernmental organisations (NGOs), government agencies and the villagers, which took place at the village hall on Sunday night.
“Parents, at this juncture, should understand that life now is all about technology, connectivity and being able to adopt IT as part of life. Therefore, there is no reason to stop their children from embracing technology,” he said.
Fadillah also pointed out that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had stressed about the need to master technology, in line with the state’s priority on its digital economy goal.
“Malaysia now is short of software engineers – this is an opportunity for our younger generation. Going into this route in your education path is definitely the way to go.”
The session on Sunday also had a question-answer session between Fadillah, Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and the villagers, who raised various issues and problems affecting the people and the constituency.
Senator Dr Zaiedil Suhaili and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Kampung Matang Batu 10 chief Wan Hashim Wan Sulaiman were also present.
