KUCHING: Nusantara Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) College on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) with Beijing Wuzi University, aimed at opening up opportunities for students from Kuching and Beijing to visit and learn from one another.

This was the result of the effort put in by NIIT College, together with Regal Group and Global China Centre Cultural Service, in creating more educational opportunities for students.

Outstanding students from NIIT College will have the opportunity to apply for the ‘One Belt One Road Scholarship’. Successful applicants will be able to further their studies in Beijing with free tuition and boarding.

Beijing Wuzi University vice president Dr Weng Xingang said the university would provide full scholarship for Sarawak students under its ‘Study Go China’ programme at NIIT College.

“We will also provide internship opportunities and living allowances so that the students will not have to bear the financial burden of studying in Beijing,” he said.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who was present to witness this signing, said it was a clear manifestation of what could be achieved when the spirit of mutual understanding prevails.

“The signing ceremony provides NIIT students with the opportunity to complete their bachelor degree in the business fields at Beijing Wuzi University. This indirectly will increase the opportunities for student access and success in higher education.”

The smart partnership between the NIIT and Beijing Wuzi University was more than mere students’ transfer or faculty exchanges, he added.

“Other critical areas such as research, mutual development of learning technologies, development of international internships are areas which have also been emphasised. I believe such collaborations will increase the credibility and reputation for both institutions in the near future.”
