‘Knowledge, skill needed to empower a nation’
MIRI: Knowledge and skill are the core values needed to empower a country as a nation of brilliant ideas, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Speaking at the closing of Miri Division Tilawah Al- Quran at Darul Ehsan mosque here on Tuesday evening, Awang Tengah also stressed on the importance of Quran as the source of unity in the Islamic society.
“The appreciation of the Quran’s holy verses will inspire and motivate us to be closer to Allah SWT and to master knowledge because Quran invites the people to acquire and uphold the high level of knowledge in life,” he said.

“In line with the theme for this year which is ‘ Kesatuan Ummah Kesejahteraan Negara’, Allah commands us to always stay united, be respectful of each other regardless of our religious background, something that we have been observing since Sarawak’s independence through Malaysia,” he said.
He added that the Quran is a great miracle revealed by Allah to Prophet Muhammad to justify the teachings of the Shari’a.
“Quran enhances the laws of Allah to form a universal doctrine of the various aspects such as material, physical, spiritual, and the hereafter because wherever we are, the Quran is our guide and source of reference in all aspects of life.”
He later gave a grant of RM30,000 to Jawatankuasa Tetap Aktiviti Islam Miri (Jataim) for it to run its activities.
A total of six ‘Qari’ (male Quran reciters) and three ‘Qariah’ (female Quran reciters) took part in the event,
Mohamad Faizzil Affendi of Subis was winner in the ‘qari’ category, with Hamim Mohd Shahib and Muhammad Izzat Mukhali from Miri in second and third places respectively.
In the ‘qariah’ category, the winner was Farra Liza Mohd while Norliza Chem and Dara Ali, all from Miri, were first and second runners-up respectively.
Mohamad Faizzil and Farra Liza each brought home RM1,000 cash, a certificate and trophy while second and third place winners brought home RM750 and RM500 respectively with a trophy and certificate each.
The participants were judged based on ‘ Tajwid’ ( 35 per cent), ‘ Tarannum’ ( 25 per cent), ‘Fasohah’ (20 per cent) and voice (20 per cent).
Among those present were Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang, Miri deputy mayor Julaihi Mohamad, Miri district officer Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf, Subis district officer Husini Bakir, Miri Islamic Religious Department head Ustaz Sazali Datuk Seri Abd Kadir, Darul Ehsan mosque chairperson Temenggung Abdul Rahman Fadzail, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) publicity chief Datuk Usop Sani Wahab, heads of government departments, councillors and community leaders.
