Dr Ting: Show approval letter for upgrading of roundabout

-

MIRI: Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon yesterday challenged Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting to produce letter of approval for the upgrading of Pujut 3 Roundabout.

Responding to a report in a Chinese daily, Dr Ting said: “The report stated that Ting recently announced that the RM12 million allocation for upgrading works has been approved. Don’t just announce it as the people have been hearing and waiting for the project to take off for a long time.

“People have been hearing about it for the last 15 to 20 years but until today nothing has been done. We haven’t heard any confirmation from the authority concerned. If the project has been approved he must produce the approval letter.”

Dr Ting added the people were now tired, angry and frustrated over empty promises made over the matter.

“Don’t make empty promises as the people have been hearing about them before and during election times. Please, be truthful and don’t lie to the people. If what he said is true he must produce the letter of approval from the authority concerned,” he added.

On another matter, Dr Ting said it’s ridiculous and a waste of time for the public to write to Miri City Council ( MCC) one week in advance to attend the full council meeting.

In November last year, the MCC passed a motion brought up by Cr Keith Chin that the public are required to notify the city council through letter one week before if they wanted to attend the full council meeting.

“The only reason for the notification is for the city council to prepare refreshment and allocate seat for them (public). The people have the right to attend the meeting in order to know what is going on, and the planning and running of the city council,” he said.

Two DAP members namely Peter Hii and Bong Siong Ted are expected to attend the meeting on Jan 29 after receiving approval from the MCC.

Dr Ting, however, said the requirement (writing letters) is ridiculous, waste of time, and an abuse of power.
