Good response but still short of 100 pints of blood

-

MIRI: Caring members of the public in Miri responded to the call to stock up blood at Miri Blood Bank but they are still short of 100 pints at least.

According to the blood bank public relation officer Kenneth Numan several government agencies and NGOs as well as individuals have come forward since the blood bank made the call for blood through the mass media last week.

“Public response had been very good. The Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC) Miri District regularly organises blood donation for us while NGOs like Terabai Menua also come forward to donate.

“We managed to collect 91 pints of blood from students and staff at the Blood Donation campaign at ILP Miri today, but more donors are still needed,” Kenneth told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He said the donors can either come to the blood bank on weekdays and Sunday (Jan 28) during the campaign to be held on the ground floor of Imperial Mall from 9am to 1pm.

“The Blood Bank of Miri Hospital is currently short of all types of blood. Do help us call for blood donors to come over.

“The blood bank is open from 8.15am 12.15pm and from 2.15pm to 4.15pm from Mondays to Thursdays, and from 8.15am – 110am and 2.30pm – 4.15pm on Fridays,” he said.

Chairman of Terabai Menua, Awan @Wilfred Masem led 17 of its members including publicity officer Thomas Patrick in donating a pint of blood each at the blood bank on Jan 19.

“Although blood donation is part of our yearly activities, this time we organise it in response to the blood bank’s call for more donors as blood is important to save the lives of patients.

“We thank the blood bank for its hospitality and professionalism to enable us to do our community service,” Thomas told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He said on Friday (Jan 26) 15 members will make a similar donation at the blood bank.

He called for more members and the public to respond to the call for blood.
