Salleh views seriously leak on organ donors’ data

KUALA LUMPUR: Communicat­ions and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak yesteday said that he viewed seriously the report on the leak on personal data of organ donors in the country.

He said the Department of Personal Data Protection (JPDP) under his ministry was in the midst of investigat­ing the matter with the police.

“Further informatio­n on the leak will be provided by the JPDP once the investigat­ions are completed.

“Any quarters found involved will face legal action,” he said in a statement here yesteday.

Salleh also urged those involved in processing personal data or managing database system to maintain their integrity and efficiency to ensure that their data security system would not leak or suffer abuse.

The leak on personal details, such as the donor’s code, full name, MyKad number and telephone number was reported to have involved over 220,000 organ donor in Malaysia.

Commenting on the same issue after opening the Congress of Successful Young Entreprene­urs Generation ( GMB) 2018 here, Salleh said efforts should be taken to improve data security in the country to ensure that the data would be protected at all time and not shared without permission.

He said the ministry had also prepared several regulation­s that must be adhered to by data holders and users to prevent leak.

“Each data operator should improve the level of their data security. Right now, there are various data protection technologi­es available,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Salleh said the congress was the best platform for young entreprene­urs to gather new informatio­n and learn new technologi­es to expand their businesses and stay competitiv­e.

“This is a practical initiative to help produce more young entreprene­urs and strengthen their businesses,” he said.

The two- day congress, which began on Tuesday, was attended by over 3,000 entreprene­urs. — Bernama
