Driver rescued after lorry lands on its side

KUCHING: The driver of a lorry laden with palm oil fruits is now in hospital after the vehicle landed on its side in an incident said to have occurred around 11am near Lundu yesterday.

According to reports, the driver is a 48-year- old Indonesian.

It is believed that he lost control of the truck upon passing a section of a road near Kampung Selarat.

A team from the Lundu station, led by senior Fire and Rescue officer II Annuar Mantali, rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call.

The department’s Emergency Medical Service later brought the lorry driver to Lundu Hospital.

In an unrelated incident, a compact car driven by an elderly man plummeted into a 3m ravine off a section of Jalan Rapak near Sri Aman late Thursday.

Firefighte­rs from the Sri Aman station were mobilised to the scene upon receiving a distress call, where they found that the driver, aged 50, was unable to free himself out of the wrecked vehicle.

The victim was later brought to Pantu Clinic for treatment.

In another separate case, a woman motorcycli­st collided with a car near the traffic light intersecti­on of Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho and Jalan Rock here yesterday.

The victim, aged 22, was riding her motorcycle before the crash.

Firefighte­rs from the Batu Lintang station arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call, where they gave first aid to the victim before she was sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
