Support BN in GE14 for better representation — Dr Sim

-

KUCHING: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has appealed to his constituents of Batu Kawah to support Barisan Nasional ( BN) in the 14th general election (GE14).

The Batu Kawah assemblyman said the present situation of him alone serving the people of Batu Kawah was akin to ‘ only one engine working’.

“You have only one engine at the moment – what if this one engine breaks down? Hence, you need to have another engine.

“I hope people of Batu Kawah would pick BN come the general election,” he said at the Batu Kawa Che Qian Khor Moral Uplifting Society’s annual charity event held at its premises in Batu Kawa Old Bazaar here yesterday.

Batu Kawah is one of the state constituencies under the Stampin parliamentary area.

BN lost Stampin to the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in 2013 election. The BN- component Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP), of which Dr Sim is the president, wrested Batu Kawah from the DAP in the 2016 state election.

Earlier, Dr Sim lauded the society for reaching out to the needy as the Chinese community prepares to usher in the ‘Year of the Dog’ this Feb 16. He said it is imperative for every individual to play their role in preserving a caring environment for all.

“It is the tradition of Sarawakians to do charities during festive seasons and we help the needy and the less-fortunate individuals irrespective of race and religion.

“This is a tradition that we must continue to uphold, for we live to bring cheer to and care for others.” Dr Sim advised Sarawakians to do good deeds every day as part of preserving social peace and harmony.

“It does not necessarily mean that you have to fork up money to help. Sometimes, doing your part to cheer up those who are sad is one way of contributing to society,” he said.

A total of 141 individuals from poor families received angpows and goodies including rice, eggs, noodles, biscuits and milk from the society at the event.

Among those present were Batu Kawa Che Qian Khor Moral Uplifting Society chairman Voon Kim Fah and SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chairman Wilfred Yap.
