Nanta: Works on ‘missing link’ to start Feb 20

-

KUCHING: Works to connect the ‘missing link’ between Nanga Temalat in Song and Nanga Ngemah in Kanowit are expected to commence on Feb 20.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said that works to construct the 14.7km missing link were divided into two packages.

“Contractor for the 9.6km stretch from Nanga Ngemah to Nanga Temalat has been identified and appointed. They will go to the site to start works on Feb 20 if everything goes well.

“The second package is to construct the 5.1km stretch from Nanga Ngemah to the Nanga Ngungun bypass,” he added.

Nanta said this during a press conference after attending a Highest Joint Committee meeting along with Project Planning and Monitoring between the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and its state counterpart here yesterday.

The meeting was co- chaired by its minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah

The federal government, Nanta added, had approved an allocation of RM150 million to complete this ‘missing link’ project.

“Once completed, travel between Kapit and Sibu will be seamless,” he added.

The more than 30,000 people living in Song District would longer live in isolation. They will have a better standard of living with the presence of a road, Nanta said.
