SDNU to launch initiative to help govt in digital technology drive – Mawan

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom wants community leaders in the rural areas to support SDNU’s project towards helping the state government in its digital technology initiative.

He disclosed that SDNU would launch the project at a convention to be held at the Sarikei Civic Centre after the Chinese New Year celebration.

Sarikei was chosen in view of its being in the heart of the state’s central region, he said when receiving a courtesy call from several longhouse chieftains from Awik in Krian, Saratok yesterday.

“I hope all community leaders will converge on Sarikei when the time comes and you will know about the project through the mainstream and social media as well as radio stations, which will be launched by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development. And I hope the community leaders would later on disseminate useful information from the convention to their charges,” said Mawan.

As digital technology is set to transform the rural economy and improve the living standard of the people, SDNU is committed to playing a complementary role in promoting the adoption and usage of digital applications among the rural Dayak community, he said.

Mawan, who is Saratok MP, said the promotion and adoption of digital technology would be given high priority in SDNU’s agenda and this project would be deliberated further during SDNU supreme executive council (SEC) meeting next Tuesday at a hotel here.

A special taskforce on digital technology would be set up at the meeting, tasked with the responsibility of drawing up strategies and action plans, said Mawan, assuring the government that SDNU is fully supportive of the state government’s policy on digital technology and digital economy.

Meanwhile Mawan also received an invitation from SDNU Youth chairman Churchill Edward Drem to be the guest- of-honour during the one- day SDNU President Cup 2018 futsal tournament, set to take place at Stakan Sports Centre here this Feb 24. Organised by SDNU Youth, the tournament is open to Malaysians of various races. Thirty-two teams will be featured in the Men’s category, and 20 teams in the Women’s category.
