Drumming up support for Nanta
KAPIT: A call was made at the ‘Malam Mesra Warga Mas Persatuan Foochow Kapit 2018’ for Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi to be returned as Kapit MP in the coming 14th general election (GE14).
Grace Wong, the organising chairperson of the gathering, said it would be good if Nanta is retained as Kapit MP with a bigger and convincing majority so that he will be elevated to a full minister.
Presently, Nanta is the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development in the federal cabinet.
“He has a good track record and is friendly and helpful to us,” she said at the gathering recently.
She then mentioned about the numerous assistance and development projects Nanta has brought to Kapit.
“He allocated social activity funds to non- governmental organisations including Kapit Foochow Association. All these years, Nanta and also Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat have helped us financially on various occasions to ensure that we are able to hold our planned activities.
“For that, we say thank you very much.
“Since they have been very supportive of us financially and morally, we have to reciprocate by voting them.
“Let us be united and give our undivided support to Nanta in this coming general election so that he can win with a big majority,” she added.
Touching on the gathering which was attended by about 160 guests, she explained it was hosted by the Veterans Section of Kapit Foochow Association.
“Through this function, we hope to relay a clear message that we appreciate the role played by our senior citizens in contributing towards the wellbeing of the Foochow community here,” she said, adding that the Kapit Foochow Association has become an umbrella for all Foochows in Kapit in terms of welfare and children’s education.
Kapit Foochow Association has about 560 registered members while the Veterans Section has some 200 members.
Political Secretary to the chief minister Tapah Ata officiated at the function.
Also speaking at the function were Tapah, Temenggong Tan Kian Hoo and Kapitan Yiap Yii Hoo.
The main activities of the evening were presentation of umbrellas and ‘angpow’ to senior citizens, lucky draw and karaoke singing.
