Sibuti MP assures local fishermen of continual government assistance

MIRI: Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang has assured local fishermen that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would always look into their welfare regardless of their racial or religious background.

“The fishermen are always assisted, including the giving out of subsidies and allowances, among them allowances of RM300 per month if they cannot go out to fish because of rough seas.

“The government is aware that fishermen play important roles in the country’s economy,” he said when officiatin­g at the annual general meeting (AGM) of Miri Fishermen Associatio­n ( PNK) recently.

At the event Ahmad Lai announced an allocation of RM10, 000 for Miri PNK and another RM2, 000 for education of the members’ children.

He reminded the associatio­n to utilise the government’s assistance as best as possible for the benefit of its members.

On the meeting, he hoped members would choose leaders who can lead the associatio­n to a higher level.

The AGM unanimousl­y elected Musa Bujang as chairman of the Miri Fishermen Associatio­n ( PNK) replacing Cr Jamali Basri who resigned after holding the post since 2012.

Ten other elected members of the Board of Directors are Samsudin Amit, Ali Jihu, Ibrahim Abdullah Kemol, Mohd Rozi @ Luie Saini, Musa Sulaiman, Mohamad Hatta Jamali, Buang Lamat, Hipni Sulong, Okong Sulip and Yussop Abdullah.
