Founder’s grandson donates RM50,000 to SM Wong Nai Siong

SIBU: SM Wong Nai Siong here has received RM50,000, donated by the grandson of the school’s founder.

The money would be used to construct a new running track there.

The donor Stephen Huang presented the donation to SM Wong Nai Siong management board treasurer Albert Lau yesterday.

In his remarks, Huang said he always loves to visit the school.

“I’ve this sense of kinship with this school.”

Huang said his family settled in Taiwan when he was young but even then, many people from this town visited his father – they communicated in Foochow.

“I could feel the family bond. Last time, I had a plan to come to Sibu and teach at this school, but circumstances back then didn’t allow it,” said Huang, who visited the school with his wife Linda, their daughters Bonnie and Lucy, as well as Lucy’s husband Angelo Sellan and their daughter, Cassie Sellan.

In his advice to the present students, Huang encouraged them to learn and do well in mathematics, which he viewed as being ` the basis to almost anything’.

Meanwhile, Lau called upon the students to be grateful to the school and do their best to give back after entering the workforce.

He also expressed his hope for the legacy left by Wong Nai Siong would continue to be upheld and honoured in posterity.

SM Wong Nai Siong principal Lu Yew Hiuung was also present.

After the visit, Huang and his family went to Sibu Foochow Association building at Salim here.
