KUCHING: QRPay, a cashless and convenient mode of payment, was launched in conjunction with the opening of the Neon Street Night Market in Kuching City Mall on Tuesday.

It is a new product introduced by Maybank to provide the public with another platform for cashless transaction.

Any merchant or shopkeeper, even hawkers, can apply to use this service by registering for MaybankQRPayviatheMerchant App where they can indicate their bank account number for payment to be channelled to.

Money is credited in real-time to the merchant account, making the whole process seamless and merchant-friendly. The opening of Neon Street Night Market was officiated by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

In his speech, Dr Sim mentioned that the night market was to provide opportunity to the local community to trade legally.

He said they could sell traditional food, drinks, clothes and farm produce including setting up food truck there. He also said the night market is held every Monday and Tuesday from 4pm till 10pm as an extension of the weekend market.

He hoped the market would become a tourist attraction.

“The success of the market depends on the stall operators, Padawan Municipal Council ( MPP) and the management. Keep the place clean and tidy,” Dr Sim advised.

Also present were MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman; Temenggong Datuk Tan Joo Phoi and Maybank Sarawak regional director Nasir Khan.
