MP invites more companies to join people’s sales programme

-

AN MP yesterday invited more private companies to participate in the ‘Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat’ sales programme to support the government effort to help the people address the cost- of-living issue.

Datuk Shabudin Yahaya ( BN-Tasek Gelugor) said the initiative could help ease the daily expenditure of the people and boost their purchasing power.

“Through this programme, the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry is providing the opportunity for the people to buy goods at lower prices.

“We also have private sector participation in the programme whereby the government invites private sector companies to work together to address the problem,” he said when speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat.

Shabudin dismissed allegations by the political opposition that the programme was intended to bribe the people ahead of the 14th General Election.

“Such a programme is rarely carried out, but it is implemented when there is a need such as now when many people claim that prices of goods have gone up.

“Thousands of people come to these sales and they are able to save up to RM200.

“So, do not poison the people’s minds because the programme has just been introduced and, if it is successful, the government will implement it more often,” he said.
