Bomoh ‘turns’ gold into water, cons grandmother

-

SIBU: A grandmother, who sought help from a ‘ bomoh’ to ward off misfortune on her family, ended up being cheated of cash and jewellery.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit in confirming the case said the 65-year- old lost about RM100 and gold jewellery worth over RM10,000.

According to him, the woman was initially approached by a female stranger at the Central Market around 9am yesterday.

“The stranger said she was looking for a traditional healer to cure her illness. The victim then offered to introduce the stranger to a bomoh, whose services she had sought before.

“However, the pair was soon approached by a man who claimed to be the grandson of another bomoh. This so- called grandson told the victim that misfortune was about to befall her family.”

Stanley said the woman was told to bring her valuables to a special prayer ceremony to cast away the spell on her family.

At the ceremony, she was instructed to wrap the items in a handkerchief and hand it over to the ‘grandson’ in order to be blessed.

“The bomoh returned the handkerchief to the grandmother after the ceremony and told her not to open it until she returned to the Central Market. She did as she was told and was shocked to see that her valuables had been replaced with two bottles of water,” he added.

Police are investigating after the victim lodged a report.
