Youth centre in food donation partnership with Hilton Kuching

-

KUCHING: The Breakthrough Youth Centre yesterday entered a food donation partnership with Hilton Kuching.

Its director Lau Yeo Koo said he was grateful that Hi lton Kuching, through its Blue Energy Committee, chose the centre as beneficiary of the food donated by the hotel.

He also revealed that Hilton Kuching will be providing food for the centre on a weekly basis from Mondays to Fridays.

“Students studying at our centre will benefit from this partnership as the food will be served to them after their classes or any activities held at this centre, from Mondays to Friday every week,” he said during the partnership’s launching ceremony.

Hilton Kuching’s Blue Energy Committee representatives, who were present during the ceremony, commented that the donated food is from the hotel’s daily breakfast serving.

The food, however, are not items that have been served during the hotel’s daily buffet, but rather extras that were already prepared daily for breakfast but not brought out to customers.

“The reason why we donated the food to Breakthrough Youth Centre is to minimise or prevent food wastage. The Blue Energy Committee feels that we should donate our hotel’s unserved food to non-governmental organisations ( NGOs) like the Breakthrough Youth Centre,” said a Blue Energy Committee representative.

Located at Block L of the MJC Batu Kawah Township, Breakthrough Youth Centre is an NGO that caters for children who are from less fortunate families.

Formed 10 years ago, the centre offers tuition and classes for these children with the help of volunteer teachers, and also organises other activities for them.

The centre also divides itself into four departments, namely Family Visitation and Care, Building Homes, Natural Farming and HUB Youth Centre.
