Work closely with other BN component parties, SUPP Mambong told

KUCHING: Members of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) in Mambong have been called to work closely with those from other Barisan Nasional ( BN) component parties in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary election.

According to Assistant Minister of Community Well Being Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, such close rapport between those in BN component parties is vital in ensuring the BN candidate for Puncak Borneo parliamentary seat win by a large majority.

“For the coming election, I hope that SUPP ( Mambong) could work closely with other BN components to ensure a bigger majority win by the BN candidate, which would make it easier for us to carry out development polices to help the people,” Harden said at a Chinese New Year gathering in Kampung Abang in Ulu Padawan near here recently.

The event was hosted by SUPP Bra’ang sub-branch for the first time.

Harden, who is also SUPP treasurer, viewed his party as still being a strong partner of BN and in this regard, he called upon local SUPP members to continue making their presence felt by the people.

“You ( SUPP members) must show the people that the party is still relevant, so make your presence felt by running more programmes and activities to help the people – by doing this, we would earn respect from other BN (component) parties,” he said, delivering this call especially to members of SUPP Bra’ang subbranch.

Harden also called upon all village chiefs in the area to help underprivileged individuals and single mothers among the villagers to register with E- Kasih – a monthly aid programme under the Welfare Department.

Meanwhile in her remarks earlier, SUPP Mambong chairwoman Datin Jeniffer Chee Moine said BN needed a stronger mandate so that it could have a stronger voice in fighting for the rights of Sarawakians under the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Later, Harden presented an allocation to Kampung Abang headman Mission Rimbang to fund the running of activities for the benefit of the villagers.

Additionally, the assistant minister received new membership applications from SUPP Bra’ang sub-branch chairman Councillor Jimson Jium.

The gathering last weekend also hosted members of Bikers Kental Club who donated clothes to less fortunate villagers.
