Dewan Sa’ati venue of a seminar on ‘One-Belt-One-Road’ from April 6 to 7

KUCHING: A public seminar on ‘One-Belt- One-Road’, will be held on April 6-7 (from 2pm- 5pm) at Dewan Sa’ati of Sarawak United People’s Party headquarte­rs here, which will be declared open by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin revealed this after receiving a courtesy call from China’s ConsulGene­ral in Kuching, Cheng Guangzhong, at his office here yesterday.

“The seminar will talk about the concept of ‘OneBelt- One- Road’ ( OBOR) to Sarawakian­s with the view to link it with Sarawak. Cheng, who will one of the speakers, will talk on ‘OBOR Initiative: China’s Perspectiv­e’.”

Meanwhile, the courtesy callwasmad­eto,amongother­s, maintain and strengthen the cordial relationsh­ip between Sarawak and China, and identify potential industries that could enhance the economies of both places.

“We have learned so much about China; its demography, places, education and many others. I believe that we can strengthen our existing cooperatio­n and also improve the various fields between Sarawak and China.”

On tourism, Lee said China was a huge market indeed, and that about 130 million of its people go to other countries each year as tourists. They include senior citizens, people seeking medical treatment, and students studying overseas.

Cheng meanwhile said his focus as the new consul- general, was to strengthen the existing relationsh­ip between China and Sarawak.

He added that Sarawak had great potential for growth because of its abundant natural resources and its beauty.

Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Hii Chang Kee, was also present during the courtesy call.
