Good Samaritans deliver help to two urban poor families through social worker

-

KUCHING: Two urban poor families here recently received donations from a group of Good Samaritans.

Social worker Lim Chee Haw represented these Good Samaritans to hand over the donations, comprising rice and other food items, to the families living in the KMC Flats and a unit at Jalan Ang Cheng Ho here.

The first recipient is Augustine Rikot, 46, whose salary as a labourer is barely enough to support his family of five children.

The other recipient is 43-year-old general worker Lim Poh Hai, who lives in a rented unit at Jalan Ang Cheng Ho with his elderly mother, who is now on a wheelchair following a stroke.

“I thank the Good Samaritans who have responded to my request to help these families. I will continue to assist poor families. This is because I myself once lived in poverty and hardship during my younger years, and I have promised myself to help those in need in that I myself am doing financially- OK,” said Chee Haw, a retired marine police personnel who is now devoted to doing charity work.

He thanked Ho Hin Motors Sdn Bhd in Kota Samarahan, Fook Lai Construction in Batu Kawah New Township, one Mr Law and family from Foochow Road No 2, and one Mr Hii and Sandi Bunya from Jalan Matang, for their generous contributions.

On another matter, Chee Haw said he could be contacted at 082248153 / 016- 8070388 to assist in helping non-Muslim poor families acquire coffins for the funeral of their dearly departed members.

He said cash donations had been received from Good Samaritans to buy coffins from a coffin shop at Mile 3 1/2 here, which would later be given for free to poor families following the requests for assistance.

To date, 18 poor families from places as far as Bau, Serian and Sri Aman have received such assistance – the latest recipient was a family at Kampung Sinjog, Mile 18 of Kuching- Serian Road, who requested a coffin for the funeral of an elderly member of the family. Others who have received such assistance are families from Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah, Mile 27 Kuching- Serian Road and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

“Thanks to cash donations from the Good Samaritans, coffins are purchased and placed at a coffin shop in Kuching ready to be delivered upon request,” said Chee Haw.
