Hope Place donates wheelchair, special milk to teenager

-

KUCHING: Sixteen-year- old Isaiah Santih should be in school like any other teenager, but is instead wheelchair-bound for life after being knocked down by a car.

The October 2017 incident, which happened while he was on his way home from school, left him with head injuries and saw him undergo nine surgeries.

Recently, Hope Place Kuching paid a visit to Isaiah and his mother Cecilia at their home to hand over a new wheelchair, special milk, disposable diapers and food items.

Its founder Kelvin Wan, through a press statement yesterday, said Cecilia had no choice but to resign from her job in order to take care of her son full-time.

“Cecelia informed me that she has to feed Isaiah milk every three hours through a special tube.

“The family cannot really afford to support Isaiah in the long-term as they need a constant supply of Ensure milk and disposable diapers for him.”

According to Wan, the sole breadwinner is now Isaiah’s father, who earns RM950 per month.

He said after paying the monthly house rental of RM380, the family is left with very little, especially after buying Ensure milk, which costs between RM77 and RM85 per tin.

Those who wish to help can contact Hope Place through its hotline 013- 5672775 or 082- 505987, from 8.30am-12pm and 2pm- 5pm on weekdays, and 9am-12pm on Saturdays.

Should the public be interested to make a donation, do request for a receipt from the staff at Hope Place.

Direct bank-ins can be made to ‘ Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching’ through its Maybank account 5112- 8900-1160.
