HONG KONG: TVB has confirmed that it is set to film the movie Triumph in the Skies 2020, the third instalment in the franchise.

Filming is expected to begin at the end of the year.

For the movie, the TV station plans to cast Moses Chan, Ruco Chan and Kenneth Ma. To improve its appeal among viewers in mainland China, TVB is also inviting actors William Chan, Yang Mi, Angelababy, Dilraba Dilmurat and Huang Zitao to join the cast.

Veteran actor Francis Ng who had helmed previous movies, is also being considered.

But previous stars Chilam Cheung and Myolie Wu will not be invited because of legal issues with their current management company.

For the production of the 200million-yuan movie, TVB shall be collaborating with Tencent.

Currently, production crew are scouting for filming locations in Europe, Canada, Australia, and the US.

When released in 2003, Triumph in the Skies received favourable reviews. The release of Triumph in the Skies II ignited a new demand for the pilot drama, and even spawned a film version in 2015.

Francis Ng had starred in all the previous television and film versions.

In the 2015 film version, young pilot Branson ( Louis Koo) takes over Skylette Airlines, his father’s aviation empire, only to realise that his old flame Cassie (Charmaine Sheh) is a flight attendant there. Several years previously, he was forced to break up with her and move to New York to take care of his father’s business. Their romance, and two other romances, take centre stage.

As to what’s on offer for the latest version, and how kinky it would get, and how compelling it can be without key stars from previous series and movies, viewers shall have to wait it out.
