700 graft cases involving women since 2012
KUCHING: Statistics from Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission ( MACC) show that 700 investigation papers on corruption involving women in this country have been opened up from 2012 until January this year.
State MACC director Razim Mohd Noor said 453 of these women had been apprehended so far, and they are assisting in investigations. Out of that, 183 had been brought to court.
“Do not be overly materialistic and greedy in chasing the wealth of the world…these days even women are also involved in corruption and abuse of power.
“Women are often the victims or instruments of corruption. Often they get certain favours by offering enforcement authorities money or even themselves (sex),” he said.
Razim said this before witnessing the launch of the state- level Women Against Corruption ( G-War) programme by deputy director of state Health Department, Dr Yaw Siew Lian at the Youth and Sports Auditorium here this morning.
He said the G-War programme is an idea for women together with MACC to go all out against corruption and power abuse, which was part of MACC’s Strategic Plan for 2017-2020.
Razim said this programme is the first of its kind for women by MACC since its inception 50 years ago and had become a catalyst to produce a corruptionfree culture.
“MACC acknowledges that women play an important role in the fight against corruption, and power abuse is not only in Malaysia but globally,” he said.
Razim said women can play a bigger role in this programme as they can advise, educate and guide all levels of society on corruption. Women can avoid corruption or abuse of their power as they are not the weaker sex.
Razim advised women not to allow themselves to be exploited or become instruments of corruption, but be brave enough to give information to MACC for justice against corruption and power abuse.
Sarawak Women Institute president Norjanah Razali and state MACC deputy director Zulhairy Zaidel were also present.
