KUCHING: A memorandum of understanding ( MoU) signed between Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and United People’s Party ( UPP) yesterday is a positive sign that the two parties are working together.

According to SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, the MoU would allow both parties to work together ‘ which will eventually lead to UPP coming back to SUPP’.

“I am very happy that in response to the Chinese community wanting to see the interest of Chinese served well, both parties ( SUPP and UPP) have come together which will eventually lead UPP members to come back to SUPP.

“After all, many of them ( UPP members) originally came from SUPP and have contributed much to the party ( SUPP) and the state.

I am very happy that in response to the Chinese community wanting to see the interest of Chinese served well, both parties (SUPP and UPP) have come together which will eventually lead UPP members to come back to SUPP. Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, SUPP president

because we want to support our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to make Sarawak stronger in terms of fighting for Sarawakians’ rights under Malaysian Agreement 1963 ( MA 63),” Dr Sim said at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) headquarters here after the signing of the MoU.

The MoU was signed after the Barisan Nasional ( BN) supreme council meeting, which was witnessed by Abang Johari and other BN supreme council members.

Dr Sim added that both SUPP and UPP had to work together to fight for the state financial autonomy and make sure that the state perform very strongly in the coming general election without being distracted unnecessarily.

He however said the candidates had not been decided, and quoted Abang Johari saying ‘there would be no direct BN candidate for the coming election’, and the candidates would contest under SUPP.

Asked if the MoU would also include the candidate list submitted by UPP be accepted for coming election, Dr Sim replied, “you have to show me your curriculum vitae (CV) and convince me first lah.. I mean there is no other way lah and that is quite clear.”

It has been reported that UPP has submitted its candidates for Sibu and Lanang.
