PBB Demak Laut deputy chief supports Wan Junaidi’s re-nomination

-

KUCHING: Par ti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Demak Laut branch deputy chief Datuk Seri Syed Hamzah Syed Paie hopes that Dato Sri Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar would be re-nominated as Santubong Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the coming General Election (GE14).

He said in a statement yesterday his support for Wan Junaidi to defend his seat in GE-14 was of his own volition because the Santubong MP who is also Natural Resources and Environment Minister still has many projects which he started in the constituency to complete.

Syed Hamzah acknowledged some quarters are against Wan Junaidi defending his seat as they want someone younger to replace him.

“I know that there are certain individuals who do not agree for Wan Junaidi to be re-nominated for the GE14 citing his age as a factor. This is however not a government retirement pension work which is limited to 60 years of age, this is political affairs and struggles.

“I do not see any problem if Wan Junaidi is re-nominated because what is important is that he is fit, healthy and able to solve problems in our area.”

Syed Hamzah also believes that the people of Demak Laut are not ready to gamble on a new BN candidate for Santubong because a new candidate might not be able to fulfill the election promises made while Wan Junaidi has a good track record in serving the people.

“It is wiser and safer to cling to the strong branches than the new shoots we do not know.”

Syed Hamzah also denied that he has any personal interest in wanting Wan Junaidi to remain Santubong MP as all he wants is to see Demak Laut PBB branch united and help PBB and BN win big in Santubong in the coming election.

He believed that those who do not want to support Wan Junaidi’s re- nomination might want to see BN lose the Santubong parliamentary.

However, Syed Hamzah who is also PBB Youth information chief said despite his support for Wan Junaidi he will respect the final decision of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister in the final choice of the candidates.
