KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) may soon have a teaching hospital.

According to Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang, the Higher Education Ministry has extended its project proposal to the Economic Planning Unit ( EPU).

“As a matter of fact, the proposal to build a teaching hospital at Unimas was also included in the Fourth Rolling Plan of 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) and is expected to be implemented in 2019 after getting approval.

“The construction of the teaching hospital at Unimas will ensure continued competitiveness and improve the quality of graduates in medicine and health sciences. Thus we are looking forward to see the hospital be built soon,” she said in a statement yesterday.

With the establishment of the hospital, it will also be able to attract more physicians, provides the best infrastructure in the training of medical doctors and also be able to provide medical and health services to the community.

“Hopefully the construction of the teaching hospital in Unimas will start in 2019. We need such hospital here in the state,” she said.

The proposal to build a teaching hospital at Unimas was mentioned recently during the debate session in Parliament ( Dewan Rakyat) in which Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh had said that the proposal was extended to the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and included in the Fourth Roling Plan of the 11th Malaysia Plan.
