-

MIRI: Accounting and Finance is one of the most skills in demand in today’s job market, so it’s no wonder that most corporations are headhunting for talented and top quality accounting and fi nance professionals.

IBS College Miri recognises this employment market need, and thus the boutique college has a ready pathway for potential accounting and fi nance students, with programmes recognised by relevant higher education auditing bodies such as MyQuest and Malaysian Qualifications Agency ( MQA).

Potential students would start their education first with the Diploma in Business Administration programme with specialisation in Accounting and Finance Management. The programme’s syllabus is geared towards educating students in general business area knowledge, and in later semesters, specialised accounting skills such as Auditing and Taxation.

Once students successfully complete the Diploma programme, future accountants can choose to further their education with the Bachelor of Arts ( Hons) in Accounting and Finance undergraduate degree in collaboration with UCSI University Kuala Lumpur.

One of the most prestigious accounting and finance degree in Malaysia, students would then focus on relevant and up-to- date skills and knowledge once they start on careers in accounting and fi nance.

According to Dr Antony Hii, principal and president of IBS College Miri, the college understands that the skills and knowledge for an accounting and finance professional is ever changing, and thus its management implements strategies to ensure the syllabus is relevant, and the college graduates employable.

One of the main strategies is creating and maintaining fruitful relationships with corporations and audit firms active in Miri, in which frequent visits and interviews are done with selected corporations and firms. Dr Antony Hii also mentioned that the college has received valuable feedback and information on accounting and fi nance industry from professionals, and thus lecturers are required to update their teachings based on the latest job demand.
