‘Spend time in varsity wisely’

SIBU: The time spent in the university helps prepare students for the future which may be challengin­g.

“Life in the university is the golden time for students,” said Junior Chamber Internatio­nal (JCI) Malaysia 2011 national president JCI Senator Joseph Chieng.

He added: “Studying in university is the most wonderful time because you gain knowledge and have the freedom to make decisions on what you wish to do such as joining organisati­ons available to you.”

He said this at JCI Youth UCTS office- bearers inaugurati­on ceremony held at University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) campus here on Thursday night. Chieng urged students to always engage with the society through organisati­ons and be ready to face life and help the society after graduating.

He added that in Sarawak, students need to be ready for the many job opportunit­ies especially with the digital economy and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad

(Petros) and help the state to attain developed status by 2030.

“You will need proper training to fit these job vacancies,” he advised.

Meanwhile, Lau Ngie Chyi was installed as the 2018 president for JCI Youth UCTS.

At the event, Joseph sponsored RM2,000 for JCI Youth UCTS – RM1,000 each for the installati­on night and their yearly activities.

Also present at the event were JCI national secretary general Ellen Lu, Area Sarawak and Youth director Aaron Wong Ung Ngie, JCI Seduan president Chieng Siew Yee and 2017 JCI Youth UCTS president Benjamin Yeo.
