MCC reinstates discount scheme for parking offences

-

MIRI: Miri City Council ( MCC) will reinstate the discount scheme for parking offences effective April 1.

Mayor Adam Yii said the council has received the green light from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to reinstate the discount scheme on parking offences which was terminated by the city council in December last year.

Yii announced this when chairing the full council meeting yesterday.

“After deliberation, we have decided to reinstate the discount scheme for parking offences effective next month.”

The discount scheme was introduced by the MCC in March last year for motorists who make early payment (within 14 days starting from the date of the issuance) of their parking compound.

He explained that the main objective of the initiative was to encourage motorists to quickly settle their parking offences without delay.

On another issue, the mayor encouraged more organisations, associations and clubs in the city to submit their proposed activities to be included in the Miri May Fest’s Calendar of Events this year.

He said the proposed events must support the council’s effort in promoting Miri into a vibrant resort city.

As Miri May Fest is an annual festival event for the city which will be held throughout the month of May, he added it is already a practice for the MCC to invite any interested organisations, associations and clubs in the city to submit their activities to be included in its Calendar of Events.

Those who are interested can contact the MCC Public Relations Section in order to get further details on the matter.

Yii said he was looking forward to continuous support from the event organisers in order to ensure the success of Miri May Fest this year.

He hoped there will be more new events with fresh ideals in addition to existing annual and signature events for the May Fest.
