PSK bag double titles in handball c’ships

KUCHING: Projek Sri Kenyalang ( PSK) of Sarawak emerged champions in the 13th Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg Chief Minister’s Cup and the 8th Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup Handball Championsh­ips at the State Indoor Stadium, Petra Jaya on Thursday.

In the men’s category, PSK edged Selangor 13-12 for the Chief Minister’s Cup title.

Finishing in third and fourth place were Matang Galaxy and FAM Union.

PSK claimed a double victory when its women’s team beat GMysh 6- 3 to lift the Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup.

Majetic HT and UiTM were third and fourth respective­ly.

The ch ampions o f b oth competitio­ns received RM1,500, challenge trophy and medals while the first runners up received RM1,000, trophy and medals.

Second runners- up received RM700 and medals while the fourth-placed teams RM500 and medals.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who represente­d Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, gave away the prizes.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Assistant Minister of Uti lities ( Rural Electricit­y) Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who is also advisor of Sarawak Handball Associatio­n ( SAHA), Malaysian Handball Federation ( MAHF) president Yang Amat Mul i a Tengku Masera Zahira Iskandaria­h Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee and SAHA president Norani Drahman.

A total of 32 teams took part in the championsh­ips held from March 19 to 22.
