KUCHING: Eight Sarawakian entrepreneurs will promote their food and cosmetic products to a global audience at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase ( Mihas) 2018.

To be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur from April 4-7, Mihas is expected to involve 800 companies from 41 countries including China, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Taiwan and Iran.

“This will be the best platform for Sarawakian entrepreneurs to showcase and promote their products,” Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation ( Matrade) state director Leany Mokhtar told a press conference

yesterday.

She said the eight Sarawakian entrepreneurs were selected based on the marketability of their products and having fulfilled quality standards for packaging and labelling.

“All of them are ready and excited to participate in this event,” she said.

Leany said those not selected are also encouraged to visit the event to expand their business horizons. She pointed out Sarawakian entrepreneurs have a lot of potential to market their products internationally, hence the importance of Mihas, which enables local and international participants to trade, network and share knowledge.

Last year, the largest halal trade event in the world attracted over 22,000 visitors from 80 countries and this is expected to double this year. Out of the 800 companies this year, 32 per cent are new-tomarket.

The latest ‘State of the Global Islamic Economy Report’ by Thomson Reuters predicts the potential size of the halal market will reach US$ 3.081 trillion by 2022.
