3 held, stolen vehicles, rifle seized at border

KUCHING: Three Indonesian men, including two believed to be Indonesian National Army ( TNI) personnel, were detained by the police in the wee hours yesterday morning at Ladang Raso in Lundu on suspicion of possessing dangerous weapon, committing vehicles theft and immigratio­n offence.

State CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said the suspects were apprehende­d at 3am during Task Force Ops Lejang led by ASP Abdullah Hassan.

“During the ambush, police stopped two men on a motorcycle coming from Lundu/ Indonesia border. They wore TNI pants. One of them was carrying a SS 1 riffle with its magazine and 15 bullets. The motorcycle was reported missing at Sekama here last year. A further check revealed that they are indeed TNI personnel,” he said.

During investigat­ion of the two suspects at the scene, another two men came in a four-wheel- drive ( Mitshubish­i Pajero) from Lundu heading towards the Indonesian border.

“They stopped when they saw the police team and immediatel­y alighted from the car before fleeing from the scene,” he added. One of them was arrested after he was found hiding in the bushes and the other is still at large at press time.

“The Mitsubishi Pajero driven wasreporte­dmissingat­SgMaongon March 22 while a motorcycle found inside the vehicle was reported missing in Kota Samarahan this year,” he disclosed.

All the suspects are being placed in custody in Lundu Police Station. The case is being investigat­ed under the Penal Code, Arms Act 1960 and Immigratio­n Act.
