BN sets 28 seat target in GE14
Abang Johari says State BN confident of wresting several seats from opposition
MUKAH: Barisan Nasional (BN) Sarawak is targetting 28 parliamentary seats in the coming 14th general election (GE14).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said this means wresting several seats taken by the opposition in the last general election.
“We target 28 seats (parliament) to win in the GE14,” he said when officiating at the opening ceremony of the Pesta Balingian@Sesok 2018 held at Kampung Sesok here yesterday afternoon.
According to him, this is needed to ensure the BN’s strength and unity at state level.
“We need to show our strength (BN) to Putrajaya and to facilitate whatever our demands are.
“It is easy for us to discuss with the federal government because we have shown the strength (victory in GE14),” he pointed out.
He said the strength of unity which has cemented Sarawak’s political strength should never be taken for granted.
This, he said, was manifested in the MoU between United People’s Party (UPP) and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) aimed at uniting the Chinese community.
“The memorandum between them has been signed, I have personally witnessed it,” he stated.
Meanwhile Abang Johari took pride in the changes in various aspects in Mukah in the last 40 years ago.
As such he hoped the people would continue to change and adapt themselves with the digital technology in tandem with the initiatives taken by the state government towards digital economy.
Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs Abdullah Saidol, Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya and Mukah member of parliament Tan Sri Muhammad Leo Toyad were also present.
