Community leaders must change with time — Masir Kujat

- March 25, 2018

SRI AMAN: Community leaders in the district are urged to be more innovative, pro-active and far sighted to develop their villages and longhouses.

Deputy Home Minister II Datuk Masir Kujat said such efforts would help their villages and longhouses to prosper and benefit the people.

“The government wants those who hold positions as administrators at longhouses and villages to change their methods and be more creative in line with today’s development. Get rid of the old ways so that everyone would benefit,” he said during meet the people session at Rumah Nili Lajon, Kampung Muding Jaong Ulu, Sebuyau yesterday.

He added they should also hold discussions with their people and listen to their opinion for mutual development.

At the same time, he urged them to have their own village profile as a reference for the future as it contains data regarding the longhouse and village.

The profile is not only necessary for the villages but also government agencies like Resident’s Office and District Office.

Agencies that need the profiles should go to the ground to help community leaders prepare them, he added.

At the event, Masir announced an allocation of RM100,000 to repair the road leading to Rumah Nili while the village security and development committee and women bureau were given RM10,000 and RM5,000 respectively.

Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, local community leaders and other government department heads were present at the event.
