MPI emphasises wholesome education, good character traits

SIBU: Students should build up good character traits to attain success.

Principal of Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) Hii King Kai said the institution provides wholesome education that includes extra-curricular activities to help students practise desirable character traits,” he said at the MPI Open Day cum job fair held at the school premises yesterday.

Hii cited the murals placed around the campus that remind students of the different character of each individual.

“The bald eagle symbolises responsibility, black bear represents self-control, white tail deer represents attentiveness and the swiflets, punctuality. I hope you will continue to practise these positive character traits as character determines success,” he said.

Touching on MPI, Hii said its mission is to provide quality, wholesome, affordable education to ensure graduates are ready for the job market.

He said all MPI programmes are fully accredited by MQA.

“A number of our programmes require our student to take up co-op placement or practical.

“Tuition fees are affordable with a 2.5 year Diploma programme at around RM15,000. On top of that, we offer 30 per cent, 50 per cent, 70 per cent and even 100 per cent scholarships to encourage and reward students who excel academically.

“The Alumni Association also organises charity runs every year to help raise funds to subsidise needy students with tuition fees.”

Hii said this was the first time MPI staged a job fair and he was grateful to the seven participating corporations.

“Finding the right candidates with the right skills,desirable personality and good character is a challenge but eventually personality and character traits make a big difference on the job.”

Among those at the event were Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC) president Rev Dr Tie King Tai, MPI Board of Directors chairman Hii Ching Chiong, and directors Wong Siong Boon and Dr Yong King Hua.
