Govt will strive to continue BR1M programme, assures MP

-

SARATOK: The government remains committed to continuing the 1Malaysia People’s Aid ( BR1M) programme, despite the criticisms and negative talks from certain quarters.

According to Saratok MP Tan Sri William Mawan, BR1M is an exclusive assistance meant for Malaysians in the low-income groups — a programme that the Barisan Nasional ( BN) - led government wants to continue.

“The BR1M is not only necessary to assist the targeted groups, but it also has positive impact in spurring the local economy because the recipients would spend the money on essential goods and services.

“The rationale behind BR1M is well accepted by the people,” he said when officiating at the start of the BR1M voucher presentation here on Saturday, involving a total sum of RM690,000 for 1,429 recipients.

The presentation was witnessed by Betong Resident Bujang Ladi, Saratok District Officer Mohd Ikhmal Abdullah and Saratok police chief DSP Mordani Tanin.

Separately, a statement from Saratok Parliamentary Service Centre informed that a ‘ Solidarity Night’ would take place at the Min Syn School hall here this Saturday ( March 31), to be attended by Mawan and several other people’s elected representatives.

Mawanandhissupporterswould also attend a casual gathering at the Saratok Resthouse, to run from 2pm to 5pm on that same day.
