Bau charity event gets support from Good Samaritans

-

KUCHING: A group of Good Samaritans have chipped in to assist the organisers of an upcoming charity activity in Bau.

The group’s representative Lim Chee Haw recently presented the assistance comprising rice, sugar, snacks and others to Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institute ( PPWS) Bau branch chairperson Ator Nadeng, who represented the organisers.

Lim said the items will be handed over to three elderly persons and two disabled persons at the Health Carnival jointly organised by PPWS Bau, Dayak Bidayuh National Association ( DBNA) Bau and Bau District Office at Kampung Kopit, Bau on April 7.

“We support this event because we believe it is a good initiative to help the unfortunate members of society, which in this case are for those needy people in Kampung Kopit. Speaking from my personal experience, I can understand the hardship they are going through as I once lived in poverty during my younger years.

“I thank the donors who have responded to my request to assist this good event,” said Lim, a retired Marine Police personnel now devoted as a volunteer social worker.

He singled out Ho Hin Motors Sdn Bhd in Kota Samarahan, Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, a Mr Law and family from Foochow Road No 2 and a Mr Hii and Sandi Bunya from Jalan Matang for their generous contributions.

On another matter, Lim said he can be contacted at 082-248153 or 016- 8070388 to assist non-Muslim poor families in acquiring coffins for their departed family members.

He explained that cash donations had been received from Good Samaritans to buy coffins at a coffin store at Mile 3 1/2 here, which would later be given for free to poor families whenever request for assistance is received.

To- date, 18 poor families from places as far as Bau, Serian and Sri Aman have received such assistance. The latest recipient was a family at Kampung Sinjog, Mile 18 Kuching- Serian Road who had requested for a coffin for the funeral service of an elderly member of the family.

Others who have received such assistance were families from Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah, Mile 27 Kuching- Serian Road and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

“The donors bought these coffins out of belief these could reverse their bad luck. Whatever the reasons, their kind gesture is a great help to the poor families,” said Lim.
