MIRI: Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) is looking forward to more happenings under its new team of office-bearers who were elected during its annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday at its centre in Kuching.

President Jocelyn Hee, who was re- elected for the 2018-2019 term, said SCCS needed a lot of support and cooperation from its members to make the new term a greater one.

“In the last two years ( 20162017 term), we have had a lot of happenings including attending our first International Childhood Cancer Conference hosted by Childhood Cancer International. SCCS was the first Malaysian patient organisation to have attended this event. It was a great learning opportunity where we were able to share about SCCS and what we do.

“Meanwhile, Cankids India, a leading patient organisation serving about 25,000 children a year, which we visited last year had also been an eye opener. Following the visit there, we signed an MoU to continue to share our resources and best practices with each other,” Hee said during the meeting.

Hee also revealed that SCCS was currently working together with Sarawak Cancer Advocacy Network ( SCAN), which would be its first joint project with other cancer patient organisations.

“Despite all the activities, most importantly the whole team has been consistently working hard to improve our services, to provide support and care for the children and families,” she said, adding that several new projects were in the pipeline, including nutrition booklets and youth development programmes.

In the new committee, Hee is assisted by vice president Dr Ong Eng- Joe. Others in the new committee are Mary Kiu ( secretary), Shirley Ariffin (assistant secretary), Gary Ho (treasurer), Chin Siaw Fung (assistant treasurer), Marilyn Placid (ordinary committee member), with Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon and Datuk Lim Kian Hock as advisors.

The committee will also be focusing on its 10th edition of Go Bald campaign.
