Miri archers return home to ‘proud’ reception

MIRI: Miri Archery Associatio­n believes their team did the resort city and the state proud with their haul of five gold, three silver and four bronze medals in the recent 19th Sarawak Outdoor Archery Championsh­ip held in Sibu.

22 arc hers from Miri participat­ed in the tournament which attracted over 200 entries from other countries and other states.

Over 200 arc hers from several states took part in the competitio­n that also serves as a great platform to prepare the arc hers for upcoming competitio­ns, including Sukma, said David.

“This tournament is something similar to Sukma and we use it as preparatio­n for team selection,” said associatio­n president David Ting.

Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting agrees with the assessment, saying it was no easy feat.

“Sarawakian­s especial ly Mirians are proud of this fantastic achievemen­t considerin­g that teams which competed are known to have the best archers in the country,” he said.

“By winning many medals in this national competitio­n, it proves that hard work, discipline and commitment bring such wonderful results and helps to achieve its aim of becoming the powerhouse for archery,” he added while commending the athletes and officials during a press conference at King’s Archery, Permaisuri Imperial City Mall on Saturday to welcome the team home.

The gold medalists were Bryson Ting Tiew Luing, Lee Siaw Jing, Lee Siaw Ying and Bryan Lee while Pui Jer Min and Emily Loh were the other medalists.
