KUCHING: New Kuching police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek is committed to bring about significant changes to the force here in the quest to achieve excellence.

He says his appointment as police chief of the capital city brings with it bigger responsibilities and greater challenges.

“As the new OCPD and a local from Kuching, I promise to improve all the weak areas and to overcome all obstacles in order for us to achieve our desired goals,” said Ng during the handing- over- ofduties ceremony at district police headquarters here yesterday.

He takes over the post of OCPD from SAC Abang Ahmad Abang Julai, who has been promoted to administrative head of Bukit Aman Management Department ( Human Resources Policy Division).

Ng pointed out that he will be focusing on Inspector- General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun’s ‘ Back to Basics’ initiative which includes avoiding corruption; combating gambling, organised crime and gangsterism; and intelligence-led policing.

Prior to his appointment yesterday, he was Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department ( Law/Investigation) deputy director.

The handing-over ceremony was witnessed by state Management Department head Datuk Zamani Hamdan.
