Works to build new Matang police station to start soon

-

KUCHING: The construction of the new RM24-million Matang police station is set to commence soon.

According to Padawan deputy police chief DSP Merbin Lisa, the project is now in the tendering process to appoint the contractor.

“The construction of the police station is expected to be completed within a period of two years. Once completed, the station will operate 24hours to provide services to the community in Matang,” he said yesterday.

He added that the station would be built on a 1.7-hectare site, and would include an administrative block and living quarters for personnel.

“The initial plan ( for the quarters) was for 160 personnel, but there is a possibility it would be reduced to 100 personnel.”

He said the Matang area is currently only serviced by a police kiosk, which operates from a rented shophouse unit and manned by five personnel.

“The station currently only operates until 5pm daily due to the lack of staff. We have had to ‘take’ some of the personnel from the Batu Kawah police station to assist in manning the kiosk.”

Earlier, Merbin attended the handover- of- duties for the post of Padawan CID chief to ASP Joshua Masing Lugoh, from acting chief Insp Mansur Rahman – witnessed by CID Sarawak deputy chief ( law/investigation) ACP Denis Leong Soon Kuai.
